Book Review: Kim Jung-Gi 2013 Sketch Collection
Kim Jung-Gi 2013 Sketch Collection is here!
It's yet another awe-inspiring sketchbook from sketching deity Kim Jung-Gi.
This follows his two earlier sketchbooks from 2007 and 2011, both of which you should also check out.
The book's A4 size. Hardcover. 536 pages with low gloss semi-thick paper.
To order, contact David who's Kim Jung-Gi's assistant. You can reach him via email to buy the books. He accepts Paypal. Or buy on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/8995973226?tag=parblo-20
That poster came with the book. It's about 8 times A4 size.
He should release bed sheets with his art next time. Imagine how inspiring it will be to sleep on his art everyday.
Mine has a sketch from the sketching machine himself.
While some images are still explicit, there aren't any mating scenes like those you see in the 2007 & 2011 Sketch Collection.
Lots of sketches are drawn with those amazing perspective distortion that he likes. Many of them are detailed and they are printed huge.
The book is packed with amazing sketches, mainly character art. Most are line art, a few paintings. Some concept art, animals who think they are humans, people sitting on chairs at tables. Yeah, even something as mundane as sitting on chairs at tables becomes alive when he sketches them.
This guy is amazing at filling any scenes with details and activity. The composition always looks so dynamic. People in his scenes are always doing something.
There are many of these point-of-view sketches throughout the book. Sometimes he can even leave his body and draw himself in the scene — I did mention he's some sort of deity.
School girls with sniping guns. Classic favourite.
Just look at how he uses the wide angle perspective to bring the girl to the foreground and bring attention to her equipment.
There aren't a lot of traditional figure drawings.
This is the multi-page gatefold at the book's back that features a panorama sketch from his wildest imagination.
It's a seriously inspiring book. One of 2013's best offerings to the art community.
Get this book. Get motivated to draw. Actually, get all three books.
Most highly recommended.

Does anyone have any idea how much Duty charges will cost when delivered to the UK? I'd love to buy all 3, but I worried about how much the price will increase with duty. I've checked an online calculator which said it was less than £10, but I really don't believe it can be that cheap as the 3 books total price (including delivery) is $270.

Ordered this book the moment you mentioned it was coming out. I hope by doing so I contributed a little to getting you that personalized sketch :)

Just a quick line to let you know that the books from KJG are also imported in Europe. You can find them in Paris (Librairie Pulps Art) and Rome (L'Aventura di Jakie Bougauld) and also on www.kimjunggi.net.
Thanks Parka for this great review (as always !!!)

There is no duty on books to the UK they are zero rated. However occasionally HMRC can be over zealous in their job and will charge when they shouldn't.

Do yourselves a favor and order all thee books. I bought the 2011 sketchbook last year and wished I had bought the 2007 book as well because I loved his sketches so much. This year I bought both the 2007 and 2013 collection! My collection is complete!
I love his books so much, if I had the money, I would gift these books to anyone for anything.
Hey,
Hey,
I just found this sketch book at Kinokunyia in NYC for 95 USD, seems like a great price considering the cost of shipping and the strength of the Euro right now. They had the previous sketchbooks as well. Just don't buy them out before I get there, need to wait till payday!.
