Dark Souls one of the few games that I'm getting for the rest of 2011. It's made by the same people who created Demon's Souls which I really enjoyed playing — despite dying countless times.
Dark Souls is also being released on the XBOX 360 platform so more gamers can now get a taste of how unforgiving this game is.
Scheduled release date is Oct 4.
I've checked out their official website www.preparetodie.com — nice hint — and found out that the first release is actually the collector's edition, at the usual US$60. After that, they are going back to the standard edition.

Dark Souls Collector's Edition Includes:
- Special Designed Metal Tin Case & Protective Sleeve
- Dark Souls Game
- Mini-Strategy Guide*
- Custom Art Book
- Original Game Soundtrack*
- Behind-The-Scenes Videos*
Those with * are digital downloads to be redeemed with an online code. I'm not expecting much from the art book because the one from Demon's Souls is small and thin. This should be not much different. The picture above is a bit deceiving because the only physical stuff you're getting will be just the game and art book.

Future Press will be publishing the Dark Souls guide book. They are one of the best game guide publishers around and I can't wait to get my hands on this guide as well.
It's a hardcover priced at US$25 which seems lower than their usual collector's edition — it's even cheaper on Book Depository with shipping included!
With this game, you will want the guide.

I've had the collector's

I've had the collector's edition game and guide pre-ordered for a while. Unfortunately, they keep changing the contents of the game. Originally, it was going to be published by Atlus and include a hard copy of the mini strategy guide (i.e. what you see in the picture). Now, it's being published by Namco and the mini guide is digital distribution.
Just wanted to clarify that in case people were wondering why the picture of the collector's edition doesn't match the description. All in all, it's still a nice free upgrade and I'm sure the Future Press guide will blow the mini guide out of the water. The Deus Ex and Portal 2 collectors guides were top notch (just wish I could find the Bayonetta one for a reasonable price).

@David
Thanks for pointing that out. I've updated the text to reflect the missing mini-guide.

I didn't know they were doing the CE for the Standard Edition price on all pre-orders as long as supplies lasts. I was PISSED because Dark Souls was such an awesome game. I don't really want to buy the standard edition. I may just have to see if I can get it later.
