Book Review: Kim Jung-Gi 2007 & 2011 Sketch Collection
My friend ordered the sketch books of Kim Jung-Gi and they have arrived. So I borrowed them for this review.
The books were ordered from David who's Kim Jung-Gi's assistant. You can contact him via email to buy the books. He accepts Paypal. Or buy on Amazon at
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/899597320X?tag=parblo-20

Here's the damage for me when I bought them from David:
2007 Sketch Collection is USD$36.
2011 Sketch Collection is USD$68.
Shipping is USD$47.
Shipping is by EMS and it's very fast. The books came within 3 days, that's from Korea to Singapore.
You might think that the shipping charge is expensive. It is, but it's shipped by EMS which is fast and a signature is required for delivery.
This is how thick they are. The 2007 sketchbook is about A5 size at 1000 pages thick. The 2011 sketchbook is A4 size at 686 pages thick.
Much of the shipping charge is due to the weight of the books. They are very heavy. You can imagine the weight from the pictures above. The 2011 is so heavy you have to put on your lap to read.
The books come with their own cardboard packaging.
That's my mechanical pencil for you to see how big the book is. The 2011 sketchbook is a second reprint and has a different cover from the first print. The content is similar.
Both books come with an A3 poster. They are the same posters with '2007 sketch collection' printed on it.
Below are some pages from the 2007 Sketch Collection.
I would like to mention that the 2007 sketchbook is 1000 pages. It's likely you're not going to finish the book in one sitting.
Both sketchbooks are loaded with content. The bulk are character sketches and some comic panels. Some just line art, some painted. There are a few graphic sex scenes, and I'm not talking about the nude figure drawings which are also there.
The art is amazing. This guy is crazy good.
Even on a page filled with close-up character sketches, I find it hard to spot any similar faces. This guy draws a different face for all his characters. Many of the sketches are really detailed. The form (silhouette) is fantastic.
Below are some pages from the 2011 edition.
The 2011 hardcover as compared to 2007 which is paperback. It is A4 size so you can see the details more closely. The binding is excellent for these two books.
I really like the line art. It's very dimensional.
If you're finding it difficult to keep a sketchbook on your own, buy this book and put it on your table for some inspiration and motivation. You don't even have to read it to feel the energy seeping through the pages.
Most highly recommended.
Remember to order your books from David (Kim Jung-Gi's assistant) via email. Or buy on Amazon at

Note that there are pirated copies circulating around but you really don't want to get them as they are photocopies of the actual book. Don't waste your time with those and get the real deal instead.
Here are the videos to the two books. 2007 followed by 2011.
And here's a 75 minutes mind blowing demonstration by the master:

i think it's a bit obvious here, definitely the latter as in it features not only characters but also scenes and character sketches. the detail is ridiculously intricate and mind-blowing.
am i correct, parka?
Actually, I sort of prefer
Actually, I sort of prefer the 2007 version. It's $28 cheaper and at 1000 pages, it actually has more content, even if it's smaller.

Does anyone know if the limited edition is still available and, if so, through whom?
hi parka,
hi parka,
i was wondering if there are any great bookstores there in singapore, im gonna ask a friend to buy me from there?
I ordered both of these
I ordered both of these thanks to the posts on this site a while ago. Both are awesome and just filled to the brim with good stuff. Tho the 2007 one has more content, the smaller size makes it harder to peruse. Both are awesome though.

I have both books. Between the two I'd pick 2011, the giant mo-fo one. I think it gives a better showcase of the artist current skill level (Master!).
2007 is alright too but compared to 2011, there aren't the same mix of "finished" quality drawings as in the latter.
If you're afterinspiration I recommend 2011. I'd only recommend getting 2007 AFTER you have 2011 to round out your collection. But if you can get both at once, much better.

You should ask him what the shipping price is. If you were to buy indirectly, it's probably going to be more expensive.
Or ship them separately if shipping two books is too expensive.
Thank you for the tip. I will

I got my book today! It is much more amazing than I could ever dream of. I bought the 2011 Sketchbook and looked through it all in one sitting! I'll definitely get the 2007 in the future!
The book ended up being 68 USD and shipping was 71 USD to ship from Korea to the US. Expensive, but totally worth ti if you plan on doing studies from it or just a collector.
Talking to David is super simple and easy. David replied to me well with 12 hours whenever I contacted him.
Hope this was helpful!
I just recieved my book today
I just recieved my book today as well and amazing is an under statement. I was so excited to be flipping thru the 2011 sketchbook that I stopped somewhere in the middle so I could save some excitement for tomorrow. Really is an amazing book and worth every penny. While sure its a little expensive but really I look at it like thats the shipping thats expensive the book itself is a great deal.
If your thinking about getting this book beleive me its well worth the money and the concepts and ideas are just filled with imagination. I started sketching myself after just shortly flipping thru some of it. Truly inspiring and David was easy to talk to and contacted me back almost immediately. We exchanged a few emails, I payed him thru pay pal and next day he gives me some info that my book would ship shortly. I contacted him a few days later and he updated me with the EMS tracking number and here I am. Now I almost wish I would have bought both books at once to save. Really great buy.

finally i get my hands on these fantastic books, the shipping cost itself tooks $67 to Indonesia, but i think it was the best $67 shipping cost i've ever spent.
whether you wanna buy the 2007 or the 2011 book, you wont even regret it, i personally recommends you guys to buy both books.
and special credit goes to David, he undervalued the books in the package, so that i won't have to paid a ridiculous amount of taxes and custom fees.
if Kim Jung-Gi released a new sketch collection, it's definitely a must buy on the my list.
Hi all,
Hi all,
I take the liberty of wrting here (Parka, please delete my comment if you find it innapropriate) to let you know that Kim Jung Gi's books are now imported in Europe (by myself ^^).

Hi Parka, I was wondering
Hi Parka, I was wondering what is David's email? I clicked on your link, but I don't have my mac email setup. :<
I am interested in purchasing Kim Jung Gi's sketchbook collection. I emailed Basheer for Inquiry. 2007 sketchbook is out of stock. The 2011 sketchbook alone plus shipping to California USA is 188 SGD which equate to $150.75 USD. Buying just one book does not justify the shipping cost. I wish to contact David so I have order both books at the same time to reduce the shipping burden.
Thank you~

The books arrived today (got them both) and they are worth every penny. And the signed posters that come with them are a fun extra.
It was 183 dollars for both the books and EMS tracked shipping to Belgium (Europe). David was very helpful and the quality of the books themselves is amazing. I'm a student but even with that price it feels like a bargain for what I just got.
i love it so much !!!
i love it so much !!!
j'adore !!
To say that the books are
To say that the books are amazing would be a serious understatement!
Books + shipping to Europe added up to $183 in total but just like Laurens said, that is a bargain for the awesomeness I got.
I must underline how helpful David has been, my country (Serbia) has all kind of problems regarding payments/shipping from and to the rest of the world and David worked with me patiently to find a way to do it. My mailbox says it took 35 emails to close the deal and all my emails were answered within a few hours. Shipping was done by Korean EMS/TNT.
I really wouldn't know what to say about the books without giving them far less credit than they deserve. So I'm just gonna do what I've been doing for the last several days - sit down and enjoy them!
Hi,
Hi,

Parka,

Is it cheaper to get the 2 books from Basheer or from his assistant David (after shipping is included)?
From David it would cost $151 total

I could not find the books on the Basheer website to compare.

Hi Parka, I just ordered mine
Hi Parka, I just ordered mine , both the 2007-2011 collection. My question is, did the book always come up with the cardboard packaging? I went to Basheer and collected my ordered books. But it didn't come up with the cardboard packaging.. just only the loose book. Are the new printed edition come up with the book only? Thank You so much :)
