The Cat on a Hot Thin Groove (Softcover Ed.) by Gene Deitch - front cover


Gene Deitch is an Oscar-winning animation director and a jazz fan. In the 40s, he created a cartoon feature for Record Changer called "The Cat" and also started drawing covers. The art is beautifully stylized and look wonderful.

Fantagraphics will be putting out the a large coffee table artbook on those covers and the "Cat" cartoons. Below are some preview photos of the book.

It should be released in May 2013.
