Book Review: The Art of Tekken: A Complete Visual History
Those expecting a concept artbook on Tekken would be disappointed with this. "The Art of Tekken" is used figuratively rather than literally. The graphics included are mostly in-game screenshots with the occasional character illustrations. It's not a bad book, it's just that the book's title is misleading. They should have just called it the "The Visual History of Tekken".
Highlight of the book is the detailed coverage on the Tekken game series which was first released in 1994. The book starts off with the brief history of Namco and the arcade scene at the infancy. It then moves on to feature the seven releases, the pop culture around Tekken and character profiles. There are plenty of interviews with the staff who provide great insight into the making of the game, design and characters.
If you're a fan of Tekken, this book is going to create the nostalgia of you playing the game for the first time. It's a terrific book on Tekken history, but just note that it's not a concept artbook.
