Book Review: The Big Book of the Blue by Yuval Zommer
I love picture books with beautiful illustrations. And this book by Yuval Zommer has 64 wonderfully illustrated pages of the fish and living creatures that inhabit the ocean. Even the index pages are beautiful. Cover is lovely as well.
This is a huge book as you may have guessed by the title. It's about 9.5 by 14 inches. This is actually the third book by artist and author Yuval Zommer. His two other books The Big Book of Bugs and The Big Book of Beasts were quite popular.
The target audience of this hardcover are small children. You can tell easily but the style of the art. Some of the fish and all those that swim have cartoon eyes, and they have eyes on the same side of the body whereas real fish has only one eye on each side. The artworks look like they were created with mixed media art. I love the textures, colours and just the slightly whimsical nature of the drawings. It's a delightful book.
The text included are fun facts about the ocean and sea creatures. There is plenty of general knowledge and interesting information to read. Overall, a rather educational book.
This is a fantastic book that makes learning fun. This is the sort of books that would make kids enjoy learning. Highly recommended.
