Book Review: Brutal: The Art of Samwise
This 304-page hardcover published by Cernunnos certainly befits Samwise Didier, the artist widely known for the art he created for Blizzard Entertainment, where he has worked since 1991.
This book is more than Blizzard though. The book collects artworks he has created from 2000 onwards. You'll get to see his personal artworks, and the art he created for Hammerfall. Amon Amarth, Elite Tauren Chieftain, Metal Blade, WarCraft, StarCraft, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm and more.
The artworks are mostly full-page coloured illustrations. There are also many pages of pencil sketches and designs. His style is so recognisable around the world probably due to the art being used by Blizzard for their marketing. Samwise Didier is a guy who lives by the mantra ABC "Always Be Creating". It's really inspiring to see how much work he has created over the years and the effect the artworks have on people and fans.
Downside of the book is there's not much text talking about the artworks except for the 8-page interview included at the back.
This is a fantastic book for fans of Samwise Didier and fantasy art.
