Book Review: Christmas (Pop-up) by Robert Sabuda
A joyful, seasonal delight
Soon it will be that time of year to enjoy Robert Sabuda's holiday season pop-up books. The Twelve Days of Christmas : A Pop-Up Celebration and The Night Before Christmas Pop-up were pretty amazing but it was Winter's Tale: An Original Pop-up Journey where his genius really flowered by creating a remarkably ambitious book of pop-up tableaus that rose outside the confines of the book with the final spread having flashing colored lights in a house.
This 'Christmas' book is really a stocking filler of elegant, simple graphic pop-ups that illustrate the word Christmas with each spread taking one letter of the word and using it as the initial of another seasonal word: C for Candle; H for Home; R for ribbon etcetera and the last spread has Santa popping up and unfolding the words MERRY CHRISTMAS.
The book is a pure delight but be careful because looking at a Sabuda book is catching and soon you'll want to get the others!
