Book Review: The Essential Evangelion Chronicle: Side B
This book's the sequel to the first book The Essential Evangelion Chronicle: Side A.
The way the content is presented is similar to the first book. There are character profiles, the episode guides followed by the merchandise, the toys.
Once again, the main character that were featured in the first book are also featured here. The writeup is updated to reflect events that happened from episode 14 onwards. So character profiles are updated slightly but much of the content can actually be used in the first book as well, it's just that they decided to split the content into two. There are new artworks of course, maps of the attacks and Angel characteristics.
The episode guides are basically summaries with key events and the angels highlighted, screenshots from the TV series in sequential order and some artworks. The episodes covered are from 14 to 26 with the two movies included as well, Air and Sincerely Yours.
Lastly, more toys are featured again. There are also clothes and other accessories. The last page has the timeline of how Evangelion was created, from date of the first draft to the final episode.
Overall, the book series as a recap to the anime series. Pretty much what you know are already shown in the shows. The book just provides a bit more analysis and has selected concept art with descriptions.
Both the Chronicle books are wonderful companions to the anime series. Highly reocmmended to Evangelion fans.
