Book Review: Frameables Cloudscapes and City Lights: 21 Prints for a Picture-Perfect Home
Frameables is a series of books published by Flammarion that features pages where you can remove as prints. Such books are not uncommon. I wanted to feature Frameables because the artworks included are just lovely.
There are only two books currently in the series, one called Cloudscapes and the other City Lights. The subject matter is as the title suggests.
Each book has 21 prints which are paintings made by artists from the 17th to 21th century. Below are the list of artists in each book.
Cloudscapes
- John Constable
- Claude Monet
- Paul Signac
- Edgar Degas
- Nicolas de Staël
- Hermione Carline
- Eugène Delacroix
- René Magritte
- Helen White
- And more
City Lights
- Edward Hopper
- William Turner of Oxford
- Camille Pissarro
- Paul Klee
- Claude Monet
- Giorgio de Chirico
- Pierre Bonnard
- Rene Magritte
- Maximilien Luce
- Wassily Kandinsky
- And more
Each book is around 9 by 12 inches. The books are bound in such a way that you can easily detach the pages by tearing. To make it easier to remove the pages, you may want to run a pen knife into the gutter.
The artworks are printed as large as the pages could accommodate, and there are white borders to make them look good when framed (see the cover art). Paper used is thick, white and non-glossy. The prints look good and will look even better when framed behind glass. There's no mention on what paper was actually used for printing though. So I'm not sure if they are acid-free or will turn yellow in the future.
There's a good variety of art featured. Some are imaginary, some are not. The style is also quite varied but not too varied that the artworks look weird when placed side by side. Behind each piece of art is a short profile of the artist, a description of the work, details of the painting, and where to see more of the artists' works.
At the back of the book are some tips on framing and how you can place the paintings aesthetically.
At the time of this review, the books are priced around US $20. It's a good deal for a selection of good looking prints you can hang on your walls to instantly elevate your home or office to become more classy. Nice.
