Book Review: Liège Carnet De Croquis by Gerard Michel
Due to good fortune, I managed to get this book from Gerard Michel during the sketchcrawl in Barcelona this month.
I first knew about this book when he posted about it on Flickr. The websites he listed where the books can be found are le Comptoir du Livre and Librairie Pax, both I believe to be bookstores in Belgium. The books aren't listed online so it's quite difficult to buy them.
This is a sketchbook on Liège. Gerard Michel lives in Belgium and Liège is a city there. Collected within this landscape hardcover book are 160 pages of sketches he has drawn over the years, mainly from the last 5 years. I've seen his real sketchbook and this printed copy is almost indistinguishable from that except the cover.
His sketches are of the streets and buildings in Liege. You get views from all sorts of places, from waterfront, under the bridge, top of buildings, inside cathedrals, or just simply from the street.
I love his lines, the perspective from observation and the limited use of colours.
Even if you can't get his book, you can still see most of his work on his Flickr page.
