Book Review: Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: The Art of the Movie
Oh yeah, the Guardians are back. Just like most Marvel movie artbooks, this artbook comes with a slipcase. The book's a hardcover with 312 pages so it's satisfyingly thick.
The book’s filled to the brim with wonderful concept art for the film. There are lots of designs for the characters. The Guardians (includes cute baby Groot of course), High Priestess Ayesha, Nebula, Ego, Mantis, Yondu, Taserface (LOL), Sylvester Stallone’s Stalker, and oh, Howard the Duck. And many other characters.
Other things worth mentioning perhaps are there are quite a number of robot (Mainframe) and creature designs (Krugarr). There’s a storyboard where Rocket took out the bad guys in the forest. Designs for the love bots are nice too, and there’s a 3-page gatefold for one of the love bots from the Iron Lotus brothel in the red light district Contraxia.
Environment art consist mainly of Ego’s planet with many pages of psychedelic landscapes. The last few pages feature the inner core of Ego’s planet and many scene paintings for the ending. Interiors of Yondu’s ship, The Eclector, are also included.
All the artworks are huge, in high resolution and created with lots of details.
This book is really worth the money for the enormous amount of art included.
If you like the Marvel Universe, like their movies, and collect their
artbooks, I'm sure you'll be delighted with the artbook for Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
