Book Review: No Excuses Art Journaling: Making Time for Creativity
No Excuses Art Journaling is a fun book to help get you into the habit of creative art journaling.
It's a book for those who want a creative outlet, a place to express yourself, or just a journal to have fun with. It's designed for busy people as it says that that's no excuse for not creating art.
The book's split into two parts.
The first part is about finding what type of art and style you like, getting the right materials and setting up your art journal. The are a lot of mixed media examples so this book's not just about drawing.
By setting up your art journal, it means to prepare little tasks that you can achieve daily even if you're busy. There are daily, weekly and monthly tasks suggested in the book. These tasks come in the form of prompts to motivate and give you inspiration on what to draw. And you won't forget about these tasks either because there are insets provided on the website for you to print out and stick onto the book.
The second half of the book is called the Source Guide. It's basically 12 months of tasks and activities to try out. For example, there are example colour swatches, subjects and keywords that you can use to inspire you to create. It's not just about drawing as there are writing assignments also, short ones such as writing quotes or penning your thoughts. Each month also has a guest artist interview and some featured pages from their sketchbooks.
It's a fun activity book, nice one to get your started with art. Another book I would also recommend for busy people would be Danny Gregory's Art Before Breakfast.
