Book Review: The Pattern Sourcebook: A Century of Surface Design
This 304-page is almost palm size and quite thick.
The book collects examples of patterns used in textiles, wallpaper, furniture and ceramics. I love the huge variety of patterns featured. There are lots to see for inspiration. Most designs are illustration style rather than the graphic design style. So they have a loose look to them.
Some of the patterns aren't exactly about repeating similar designs, but more like repeating similar motifs, e.g. illustrations of different cup cakes. And some are about using repeating elements within an illustration.
The downside is some patterns are only shown in close up views, so you don't get to see the overall view to see how the textures work.
Overall, this is a nice reference and collection of patterns.
If you like patterns, check out other pattern artbooks I've reviewed too.
