Review: ESR Shift Magnetic Case for iPad Pro 2024

This is one of many iPad Pro cases sold by ESR Gear. The others are

You get two things. There's the detachable magnetic case and the cover with kickstand.

Build quality of the case seems good enough. I've not used the case for extended period of time so I can't say much about durability. It looks durable from its construction.

The case is quite thick and will make the tablet noticeably thicker. Weight of the case is 252g so that's gonna be felt too.

Main selling point is you can elevate the height of the iPad Pro to get a more ergonomic deployment for working. The case has strong magnets that attach to the cover. The tablet cannot attach to the cover without the magnetic case.

The other selling point is the case provides full protection on all sides

There are also magnets to deploy the tablet vertically. Not many other cases can do this.

The kickstand is unable to close completely flat because there are two extruded parts between the kickstand and the case. Those two extrusions are magnetic and would lock into position on the grooves of the case.

There are six grooves on the case so the tablet can be deployed at six different angles.

At the lowest angle, it's quite stable for drawing or writing. You can still move the tablet if you push the sides but overall it's firm and not filmsy. The magnets are strong.

There's a cutout for the camera of course. And on the back there's an elastic Apple Pencil holder.

The Apple Pencil can still be attached to the side of the tablet with the case for charging, but it's better to put the pen in the holder so that there's no way for the Apple Pencil to dislodge accidentally.

To conclude, the ESR Shift is a good case. It works as advertised and seems well made.
