High Spirits: The Comic Art of Thomas Rowlandson
Wow. Thomas Rowlandson, a cartoonist from the 18th century! He's from England and lived from 1757 to 1827.
This book is really quite amazing for having more than 100 full-coloured illustrations from more than a century ago. And the artworks are quite well restored. So even back then, humor, wit and satire in cartoon format is already present. This book looks Rowlandson's take on current affairs with his caricature art, and also comes with text on the events and background.
The art, the line work, are wonderful. Looking at the cartoons, I'm also quite fascinated by the clothing worn by people in that era, and also how life was like then.
