Book Review: Encyclopedia of Rainbows: Our World Organized by Color

This book has the interesting concept of arranging the things we can find in our world into a colour spectrum, just like a rainbow.

The author and artist is Julie Seabrook Ream who has an Instagram page that features similar art. The examples on her Instagram page are actually more varied because they are not restricted to the rainbow concept, so you get to see other colour schemes as well.

The book that I have here is a 176-page hardcover published by Chronicle Books, the publisher that sometimes like to put out these sort of cutesy artsy books.

The subject matter is split into the natural and built world. So for the natural world, obviously you get to see things like flora, insects, stones and all things natural. And for the built world, we have the little objects that we see everyday, stationery, food items, toys and more.

The composition is nicely done. All the subjects are laid out according to the colour spectrum. I find it quite fascinating to see that our world has objects that can be grouped and arranged according to such colours. People who like pattern art may also find this book appealing.

This book is not particularly big. It's slightly larger than the size of my palm. The photographs are printed sharp and details can still be seen. Since I dabble in watercolour, I instantly see the potential of using this book as a reference for creating art.

It's a beautiful book for those who want some eye candy.
