Book Review: でほぎゃらりー (Deho Gallery) ARTBOOK
Deho Gallery (でほぎゃらりー ) is a Japanese animation studio that focuses on creating background. The company was founded in 2015 and the mission listed on their website is this:
Our mission is to inherit the expression and technique of hand-drawing with the paintbrush and paints that have supported Japanese animation to the future.
This is a company that wants to preserve the hand-drawn quality of Japanese animation background art, and I've got to say they are doing an excellent job when you look at the beautiful artworks included in this 240-page paperback artbook. The book has a good mix of environments for Japanese cities, towns, villages and also fantasy and sci-fi landscapes and interiors.
As the text is all in Japanese, it's difficult for me to list the animated films or series included in this book. There is a list of titles the company has worked on published on Anime News Network.
If you're into background art, or more specifically Japanese anime background art, this is a great book. And do check out the other artbooks on background and environment art that I've reviewed over the years.
You can see more work from Deho Gallery on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
