Bukit Panjang Government High School (9 Feb 2015)
This is my second submission for Urban Sketchers Singapore Vol 2. I'm rushing this and the earlier sketch out because I thought today was the deadline. Turned out that the dateline has been postponed for another week until 16 Feb which is great because I now have more time to draw.
The sketch above is of my secondary school, Bukit Panjang Government High School. I attended school there from 1992-1996. Back then, there were just a few blocks. When I went back there today, almost two decades later, I could see that numerous extensions have been built to the original building. I remember having to sing the school song in Mandarin and English every morning at the assembly area. Today, the assembly area has been taken up by a huge new extension (in the sketch on the left). There's not a lot of open spaces in the school now, except for the field.
While sketching this piece, I saw students with their friends running around, going back home. It reminded me of the friends I've made during my four years there. All of my best friends were from my secondary school days and I'll always have fond memories of studying and having fun there. There was a period with this craze on the Magic The Gathering cards. My friends and I would stay back after school each day to play. Once, we had to hide under the table from a teacher walking past the classroom because we weren't suppose to play these card games in school. It was a close shave or we would have our precious cards confiscated.
The sketch was drawn with Daniel Smith, Noodler's Bulletproof Black, Sailor CE on Daler Rowney Langton watercolour paper.
