Sketching at Tolido's The Expresso Nook
Today Paul, Tony and I went to this beautiful cafe to sketch.
Tolido's The Express Nook, cafe and coffee bar, is located at Blk 462 Crawford Lane, Singapore (map). It's within walking distance to Lavender MRT station. Just walk along Kallang Road.
They have a nice mixture of wooden and glass tables. The decor is quite stylish. I love the way the wooden planks are laid out to form the sides of the counter. There's something about wood that gives the place a homely feeling.
This is my quick sketch of the place, probably done in 40 minutes. I'm quite happy that I'm finally almost finishing the Hand-book sketchbook. 128 pages is quite a lot to fill.
With the limited palette of Daniel Smith colours that I had, I could not mix a good green.
- Cadmium Yellow Deep Hue
- Transparent Pyrrol Orange
- Permanent Alizarin Crimson
- Sodalite Genuine
- French Ultramarine
- Transparent Brown Oxide
Cadmium Yellow Deep Hue with French Ultramarine gives a really warm olive green. The overall piece was quite warm but at least the colours seem to be in harmony.
The Daniel Smith Watercolours are starting to grow on me. I squeezed the tube paints into pans and they are much easier to dissolve compared to solid pans. The colours turn out real nice too. You can get DS Watercolours from Amazon or Arters (Singapore).
Paul's piece is at the bottom. Tony's in the middle.
Here's their menu.
