Book Review: Line and Wash in the Urban Landscape by Neil Whitehead
Neil Whitehead is an urban landscape artist based in UK known for his energetic paintings, quick and loose watercolour sketches.
This book is suitable for beginners who want to learn more about urban sketching. The book's a 128-page paperback published by Search Press.
There are many techniques and step by step tutorials included that you can follow along to get some hands-on practice. Several reference photos are included so you can challenge yourself to sketch those.
Along the way you'll also learn basic art fundamentals to creating good looking sketches. There are tips on framing the scene, simplifying, understanding proportion, perspective and creating lively watercolour washes.
The sketching exercises are designed to build confidence to show how accessible urban sketching. Neil's loose style means you don't have to stress too much about capturing all the details.
