Book Review: The Marvel Art of David Mack
David W. Mack is an American comic book artist and writer, known for his creator-owned series Kabuki, writer for Daredevil, and co-creator of Echo.
If we're talking about art style, he's known for his rather free style that incorporates loose watercolour splashes, collage, and framing elements. He was nominated for the 2020 Eisner Award in the categories of Best Painter/Digital Artist, and Best Cover Artist.
The Marvel Art of David Mack is a large 200-page hardcover that collects 25 years of art that David Mack has created for Marvel. Edges of the pages are painted with shiny red ink.
Bulk of the book features illustrations created for Daredevil and other pages have Echo, Jessica Jones, characters for X-men and Avengers, and more.
As a comic book artist, his art style is very different from other artists and that's what helps him stand out. The loose watercolour and paint style is refreshing to see. The way he design comic pages and covers is also something you can study. The book also has some stories on the titles he has worked on.
This is a great book for fans and comic artists.
