Book Review: Offline Journal: An Illustrated Guide for a more Connected, Creative Life
In this day and age where people are more connected to their phones and social media, this book wants break away from the distraction, the mindless consumption and be more productive and creative. Basically, it wants you to unplug so that you connect to the real world instead, to nature, friends, family and yourself.
This 112-page paperback is filled with activities you can do when you're offline. The creative prompts are intended to inspired. You can write or draw on this book itself – there are blank pages. There's one activity on drawing shop signs, another on finding patterns, you can also draw the food you eat, rearrange your furniture, plan a vacation overseas, listen to music and write about how that music made you feel when you first heard it. There are many activities you can do, and you can create countless variations for those activities too. Oh, the illustrations in this book by artist and author Jaya Nicely are lovely too.
This wonderful book has good intentions. And I do agree that it's important that you be offline and create something for yourself. Create something you can look at years from now, rather than scrolling through social media only to remember nothing about how you spent your precious time.
It's a good book worth checking out if you want to disconnect from the internet and be more connected with the present.
