Book Review: Illusive: Contemporary Illustration Part 3
The third volume of Illusive sports a beautiful bluish green fabric cover which turns blue when the cover is tilted away. I like the colour, but hate the fabric because it's going to collect dust easily. The pages are high quality art matte paper.
Illusive is a top notch contemporary art series and volume 3 maintains that standard. Majority of the illustrations are created with traditional medium. There are over 200 artists featured from all over the world and the quality is really high. The layout and presentation is great.
My favourite section is the one on tactile illustrations. It features a lot of really cool paper art. Think fine art and graphic design created using paper, not on paper. The paper graphics of Yulia Brodskaya are really creative and beautiful.
The other section which I like is the pen and ink chapter where the illustrations feature really intricate line art and amazing technical prowess.
There are some interviews and at the back is the index with the artists' websites.
Illusive is an inspirational contemporary art series. Recommended to illustrators and graphic designers.
