Review: Kuxiu X53 rotating laptop stand with hub
Review sample provided by Kuxiu
The Kuxiu X53 is a rotating laptop stand with a hub. Price at the time of review is USD 90 which may or may not include free shipping depending on your location.
This design is quite similar to the Lululook rotating laptop stand I reviewed months ago, except this Kuxiu stand has a hub with many useful ports, namely
- 2x USB-A 3.0
- Full-size HDMI 4K@60Hz
- Full-size and micro SD card slots
- USB-C for charging (up to 100W), no data transfer
- 3.5mm audio jack
- USB-C port to host

Bottom line
This is a beautiful well made laptop stand that can work with tablets and laptops.
The ports are useful but there are two downsides or limitations. First, transfer speed of the USB-A is just USB 3.0, and there are no USB-C ports for data transfer out. The USB-C port for charging does not transfer data.
One potential deal breaker is this laptop stand works better with laptops with a front side that's flat rather than with a curved or angled bottom. That's because the latch is only 1.2cm and thicker curved or angled bottom may be scratched by that small latch.
Things included
There's a 40cm L-shape USB-C to USB-C data transfer cable included.
Design
This laptop stand features a folding design. This can be made more compact for bringing around. The weight is heavy given the almost full metal build and it needs to be heavy to be stable to hold a laptop.
The bottom has huge padding with good grip on the table. The base can rotate 360 degrees and there are audible clicks. The base can stop at each click so it's not free-turning.
The back plate is quite big and this laptop stand can work with tablets or laptops from 10-inches up to 17-inches.
Corners are rounded off. Edges are beveled, including the edges for the ventilation holes. There's padding on the back plate to prevent scratching.
The two hinges are quite stiff and require a considerate amount of force to adjust. And they should be stiff since some laptops can be heavy.
The downside is if you want to use both your tablet and laptop with this stand, you'll have adjust the angle each time you switch devices, and the hinge is stiff to adjust.
The back plate is much larger than the 11-inch iPad Pro.
The laptop stand is actually quite tall which is great if you want to place an external monitor or tablet on it.
For use with a laptop, I prefer to have the stand all the way down. Any higher and I'll have to raise my hands and arms higher for typing which is noticeably more uncomfortable.
When typing, there will be slight movement with the laptop. Not the wobbly movement, just slight movement.
The maximum height of adjustable ledge is 1.2cm. This latch works best with laptops that have a flat front side.
If your laptop's keyboard section is more than 1.2cm thick, and the bottom is curved or angled, then it will not work with this laptop stand as the small latch will scratch the bottom. Even if that laptop is 1.2cm or thinner, it's not safe because if you dislodge the laptop with an accidental knock, the bottom side can be scratched by the small latch.
If Kuxiu is reading this, they should have made that latch much bigger.
These are the ports by the side.
Shown above is the transfer speed of the USB-A 3.0 ports. I've used a Thunderbolt 4 external storage to test and transfer speed is still fast enough to edit 4K videos. My laptop was able to power the TB4 external storage even without the stand attached to power. When multiple devices are connect, the stand may need to connect to power to power all the devices.
Oh if you have the stand all the way down, it can be difficult to reach the ports because there's less space between the back plate and table.
This is a beautiful laptop stand with functional design. The build quality is solid and the product feels premium.
Downsides as mentioned would be the lower transfer speed of USB-A 3.0, lack of USB-C port for data transfer out and not all laptop designs will work with this stand due to the small latch.
