Book Review: Sketchbook Confidential: Secrets from the private sketches of over 40 master artists
Sketchbook Confidential is a collection of sketchbooks from 41 renowned artists. You can feel their inspiration and excitement for art through their art and commentary.
There are sketches on abstract imagery, figure drawings, landscapes, and many more, whether imaginary or sketched plein-air. Some are quite colourfully painted I don't know if they should be called sketches. It's not all pencils and ink.
Each artist only has a brief 4 pages of coverage. Good thing is you can get to sample lots of different work, and artists' websites are included.
It's a nice inspiring read.
The list of artists included are:
- Robert T. Barrett
- Dan Beck

Compared with An Illustrated
Compared with An Illustrated Life? Is it similar?
I saw this book at the book
I saw this book at the book store today. Personally I like it better than "an Illustrated life". The art quality in the book is more consistent, every artist draws 'realistically' (or close to it), whereas "An Illustrated Life", it's a grab bag of very different styles.

An Illustrated Life prints more sketchbook pages but at a smaller size. Other than that, they are roughly similar.
