Book Review: ロード オブ ヴァーミリオンII画集 紅 (Lord of Vermilion II Art Book Red)
Lord of Vermilion is an arcade-based fantasy card game developed by Square Enix. Seems that it's popular enough for a sequel.
There are two art books for Lord of Vermilion II, the Red and the Blue, both paperbacks at 176 pages each.
The cover uses a background that spans across the two books so they look pretty nice when put together. In volume Red, it collects card art for humans, gods and demons (a portion is in the other book).
The presentation is similar to the earlier art books Black and White. There's a huge print of the card art, some card information, followed by a brief artist commentary. You can actually check out the whole list of cards at www.lordofv.com.
The art is beautiful and diverse, contributed by Japanese and Western artists - too many to name. The character designs are fantastic. It's all fantasy art and you'll get to see tons of characters, no matter how weird.
You might also find some of the characters familiar because some of the art are based off other video games like Final Fantasy XIV and XI and VI and IV, Lord of Arcana, Secret of Mana 2, Romancing Saga 2 and 3, Valkryie Profile and even Magic The Gathering.
Also included is a playing card, the rare バーサーカー. It should be the same card in all the Red books - maybe the card won't be so rare after this.
This is an inspiring book recommended to fantasy art lovers and the card fans. Be sure not to miss the other volume, ロード オブ ヴァーミリオンII画集 蒼 (Lord of Vermilion II Art Book Blue)
