Book Review: 鄭問畫集 (Chen Uen Color Works 1990 - 1998)
Chen Wei is probably known for his art on The Three Kingdoms, which I happen to review a book on few weeks ago. This art book is before all that and you can easily see why he was commissioned to draw all those Three Kingdom characters.
He has a very unique artistic style with characteristic strong colours, ink splashes and in many times mixing realism with the abstract style of Chinese painting.
The highlight of this book are the fantasy illustrations created using Chinese painting style. I've not seen Chinese fantasy art quite like this before. The truly eye catching ones are those you don't expect to see in this style, such as robots, aliens and even dinosaur-like creatures. Bear in mind that these works are created from 1990 to 1998. The rest are mostly character art and some painted comic panels.
It's a really unique portfolio of work, which I'm sure is hard to imitate.
I didn't post any links to the book since I'm not sure of any reliable online book sellers for this book. The ISBN is 9573460157 if you really want to look for it.
No book purchase links here because I don't know any reliable online stores that sell it.
