Book Review: アニメーションノート no.5 (2007) (SEIBUNDO Mook)
Here's issue 5 of アニメーションノート, an animation art magazine in Japan. It comes out every 3 months.
This volume focuses on background art from studios and artists like Kusanagi, Makoto Shinkai, Kobayashi Production, Yamamoto Nizou and others. It's filled with nice background art used in anime, accompanied by commentary. There are also step by step tutorials.
Unfortunately, I don't know Japanese to do a more thorough review.
You can find this book on amazon.co.jp. If you buy from the link, I get a little commission that helps me get more books for review.

This looks really nice and if
This looks really nice and if it were to be translated it would be even better :)
There's stuff about anime, illustration, videogames(No more Heroes?) even a stop motion show?
There seems to be lots of this more technical kind of books, mooks or magazines in Japan.
But unfortunately very little of these techniques reach the west, due to nobody translating them, im sure they would be very sucessfull.
Im specially curious about the anime background painting techniques, that most of the time are just amazing.
Anyone knows any books or blogs in english that cover this subjects more thoroughly?
