This is a 288-page hardcover with beautiful plein air style sketches from Robbie Polley and text by Margaret Fletcher. The book's published by Thames and Hudson.
This is a wonderful book for architecture lovers and for artists who want to learn more about architectural styles.
The contents is grouped according to chronological order, namely:
- Ancient and Classical
- Medieval and Renaissance
- Baroque to Art Nouveau
- Modern and Contemporary
The examples are from all over the world. The insightful text talks about the design and function. There's a lot to see and admire. It really makes one appreciate the creativity of humans and the timeless iconic beauty of some of these architecture. The beautiful line art from Robbie Polley illustrates the different styles very clearly.
The last few pages cover the elements of building such as domes, columns, towers, arches, arcades, windows, doorways, entrances, pediments, gables, roofs, vaulting and stairways.
This is an insightful and informative book. Highly recommended.
