Book Review: Black Book: The Art of Jim Starlin
Jim Starlin started his career in comics in the early 1970s and has created characters such as Marvel's Thanos, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora and Shang-Chi. This book features selected artworks from his career, pencils, private commissions, comic panels and more.
There's Dreadstar, Hardcore Station comic pages, Breed, Kid Cosmos, some covers for Battlestar Galactica, Astro City, Judge Dredd and unused pages from Captain Marvel. The art looks amazing, especially the panels from Hardcore Station which are extremely detailed. And there are captions talking about the art.
Black Book is a series of hardcover artbooks published by Ominous Press that features the comic art of selected artists, namely Bart Sears, Andy Smith and Graham Nolan.
The only downside of this hardcover is, it only has 112 pages which is barely enough to cover the decades of work from Jim Starlin.
