Book Review: Groundwork of Gurren Lagann
This is Groundwork of Gurren Lagann and the Japanese title is 天元突破グレンラガン アニメーション原画集 第1巻. It's a Japanese art book but there's not much Japanese text anyway.
The book contains animation sequence boards and sketches for the anime Gurren Lagann. These are the frame by frame pencil line drawings on character animation. Not all the scenes are completed, not all are detailed, and there are correction mark for gestures everywhere — just like work that's pulled directly off the drawing board.
The work shown is incredibly rough although there are a few nice character sketches (of sexy Yoko especially). Other than the few coloured illustrations, the rest of the book are just those panels.
This book is more for those who're in animation and looking to see how frame transitions are drawn.
You can read more about Gurren Lagann on Wikipedia.
Special thanks to James Tan for providing the book for this short review.
