Book Review: Ilene Meyer: Paintings, Drawings, Perceptions
Ilene Meyer has some fascinating work here. Her paintings have elements of fantasy and surrealism mixed with bold colours.
There are lots of strange landscapes inhibited by even stranger creatures. The checkered grounds and distant mountains appears in many pieces providing the backdrop to other visual creations. Her heads of Medusa features snakes with heads of jesters, lions, dragons, mythical gods and other carefully crafted animals and characters. Even still life pieces have something magical.
She seems to like wildlife and there are a few stunning pieces as well. In one painting, there are zebras and giraffes standing on ground that seems like cotton wool, looking into a pond that has a few planets submerged. In other paintings, the animals would be treading across landscape that's being folded like fabric.
It can get overwhelming at times because almost all her paintings are just packed with visual elements and intricate details.
