Book Review: Secrets of Scene Design: Rules, Techniques and Insights
I borrowed this book from Basheer Graphic Books for a review. The book is actually published by Basheer so if you want to get it, you should contact them via their Facebook page or email them.
Secrets of Scene Design: Rules, Techniques and Insights is an instructional book on environment design.
The book's split into three sections. The first section covers the basics on scene design, such as the gathering of reference images, preparation sketches, composition, colour, architecture and other aesthetic considerations. The book's more theory based rather than hands-on. Looking at the advanced examples, the target audience would be intermediate artists and those who are already good at digital painting.
The second section demonstrations by 11 artists. They are all Chinese artists by the way but you won't be able to tell by their awesome work. The demonstrations come with step by step pictures and commentary on the process. To see how a piece of work come to life from scratch is quite insightful.
The last section features artist interviews and a gallery of artworks. All of the artworks are concept art and they have that look normally associated with concept art paintings. Throughout the book, there are lots of good and varied examples of different environment and story ideas.
It's a book worth checking out if you're into creating environment art.

I'm sorry, what is the line
I'm sorry, what is the line "They are all Chinese artists by the way but you won't be able to tell by their awesome work" supposed to mean? Just because they're Chinese doesn't mean they can't draw as well as a gwei lo. Other than that, thank you for the reviews.

I'm talking about Chinese/Asian style. What did you think it was?
