Book Review: Social Photography: Making All Your Smartphone Photos One in a Billion
The gist of the book is to share the photos you just took on the various social networking sites.
The book introduces many of the social networking apps (many with built in camera functions) that you can use, namely Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Google+, Instagram, Tumblr and Pinterest. That's the first chapter of the book.
The rest of the book focuses more on applying effects rather than the photography techniques. Well, it does mention composition. But beyond that, it talks about how you can stylise your photos by applying filters to get all sorts of effects like film noir, retro, warm cool, blur, hip, and basically whatever there is out there. It's quite fascinating to know that there are so many effects you can apply with just a few finger taps.
The book also covers how you can use your limited fixed lens camera phone to tackle different subject matter. The usual subjects are are kittens and puppies, but there are also the more serious portraits, or selfies, landscapes, panoramas, making movies, or shooting your apartment photo in a pleasing manner to make someone want to rent it.
The book never strays far from its focus of helping your photos get a few more views. The information are oftentimes useful, especially for those who want to explore camera phone photography.
Last chapter is my favourite because it features photographers who are great and taking photos with their phones. It really shows the possibilities of what can be achieved.
Overall, it's a good book for those who want to learn more about social photography. It's a quick guide with a list of apps featured that you can learn and use before the end of the day.
