Laneway Festival 2013 in Singapore
This was my first time attending the St Jerome's Laneway Festival, a music festival that started in 2004. Prior to my friend telling me about it, I had no idea it existed.
The festival has been held in Australia for the previous years since 2004, and starting from 2011 it has moved to Singapore. And in 2013 it was held at Gardens by the Bay, just behind Marina Bay Sands.
It started at 12 noon and the weather was hot. I was sun-burned. Bad move not to bring sun block lotion.
I went with some of my friends from the office. This was when people were starting to come in. Apparently there were people queuing up at 8am in the morning.
Here's a list of prohibited items. Well, I did see people who manage to sneak them in though.
One of the things I dislike is that the bottle is among one of the prohibited items. Seriously?
The reason for that is to sell 330ml mineral waters at $5. That is just pure price gouging, simple as that. Why not just charge $1 for the use of toilet as well? Anyway, there were two water coolers at the Gardens by the Bay toilets, but not many knew about that earlier on.
So you force people to discard their bottles, then offer them the option to buy the overpriced water which many did. And of course, there will be people who suffered from heat exhaustion because of this move.
A total of 14 bands were performing, of which I knew only Gotye for that one song, and he was the last performer. Laneway is an indie music festival. Of the 14 bands I only liked two of them, Kings of Convenience and Of Monsters and Men. The night bands were on average better.
Kimbra was a fantastic performer. Songs were alright.
Drunk at 6pm.

This was just seconds after Gotye sang Somebody I That Used to Know. People were running to the taxi stand.
I had to miss the official sketchwalk of this month to go to Laneway. The sketchwalk was in the morning and Laneway starts at 12 noon. As fun as Laneway is though, it's still not as fun as a sketchwalk.
This is a sketch I drew while Kings of Convenience were playing.

That's a really nice sketch;
That's a really nice sketch; I was drawing at the festival too, somewhere towards the right. I started around the time Poliça came on and finished during the encore of Of Monsters and Men. I usually draw a lot faster, but the sun was really killing me that day. I still haven't returned to my normal shade yet. You can see the one I drew here:
