So I attended the lecture from Hans Bacher
That's the autograph and caricature I got from him while I was there.
He was showing some of the research materials he has gathered for his new book, Composition and Color. He also talked about how production design works and why sometimes it doesn't. You can probably read more from his book, Dream Worlds.
I found his thoughts on current 3D animation movies interesting. "The problem is you see every single blade of grass... It makes me sick," he exclaims. Nowadays, the images are blown up so big on screen, everything in under scrutiny from the audience, putting details where it's needed is a skill.
Also check out his wonderful blog called Animation Treasures.
