Book Review: Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio: A Timeless Tale Told Anew
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is a 2022 stop motion film directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, and distributed by Netflix. This large format 224-page hardcover is the making of companion book for the film.
This book features concept art, production stories, interviews and photos of the sets and stop motion puppets. The text talks about the production which was set for a 2013 or 2014 release but went through production hell instead, and was suspended in 2017 and was acquired by Netflix in 2018. Much of the text actually talks about the script. The book lacks more content on the actual production such as the technicalities of actually filming stop motion. There is mention of how certain scenes were shot but I just wish there was more.
Whether you'll like this book will ultimately depend on whether you like the artistic style of the film and the characters.
