Book Review: The LEGO Neighborhood Book 2: Build Your Own City!

The LEGO Neighborhood Book 2: Build Your Own City! - 01

This is the second book in the LEGO Neighborhood series. The first book was published in 2014.

This is more of an ideas book. It's packed with many examples of the different types of houses and buildings you can find in a city. You'll get to see hotels, row houses, corner stores, shops, restaurants, an embassy, parks, war monuments, cafes, museums and more. The book actually talks a lot about the architecture style with close up photos of those characteristics.

The only hands-on building tutorials included are for small items like display cabinet, piano, barbecue grill, soda machine, window, traffic light, DVD rental kiosk and things like that. Basically the props. The only lengthy step by step tutorial is on building an European style corner condominium.

What's missing and should definitely have been included are the part numbers for the bricks required for those tutorials. The book shows you how the parts look like, how many you need, but they don't show you the part number? So if you want to follow the last tutorial, you would have to compare the parts printed on the pages against the website you're buying the bricks from. What would be cool is if they have a pre-packaged set for those bricks already available for purchase.

As mentioned earlier, this is more of an ideas book so it's best to use this book as a source of inspiration. If you want to build those buildings featured, you would have to go to the Brick City Depot website mentioned to buy the building instructions (bricks sold separately).

So that's the gist of this book. You can check out more reviews on Amazon for the first book to get a better idea of what to expect. That book's written by the same authors, Brian Lyles and Jason Lyles.
