Book Review: Show Me Manila! in 101 Sketches

A small group of sketcher friends from Singapore has just published a sketchbook of their recent trip to Manila.

They had invited me to go for the trip but for some silly reason, I didn't go. Anyway, after looking at the sketches in this book, I regret not going. Argh.

Show Me Manila is a 88-page A4-size sketchbook featuring 101 sketches drawn during the trip. The contributing artists are Edric Hsu, Tony Chua, Ong Whee Teck, Tan Chit Seng, Ignatius Yeo, Lisa Huang Lishan and Marlo "Milo" Sudaria.

Interestingly, the book title is actually a word play, a homonym, that's supposed to be read as "Show me money, lah!" "Lah" is a Singapore slang that's used to make a sentence less serious.

Since they are my friends, I guess I shall just let the art do the "talking".

There are some text included and they talk about the history of the places. Short drawing tips are also included by each of the sketches.

I spotted a couple of editing errors though, things like duplicated tips, and a double printed sketch. Well, it's a one-woman job — Lisa basically created the book out of sheer will and effort.

The book cost SGD $32.90 (around US $27). For shipping to either USA or Europe, add SGD $15 (~US $12). You can order your books from Lisa through email lisahuanglishan at gmail dot com or edricism at gmail dot com
