Book Review: SUISO: Daisuke Richard Making & Works
Daisuke Richard ダイスケリチャード is an illustrator based in Tokyo. This is his artbook that features beautiful illustrations of schoolgirls.
The book's a 160-page paperback format with low gloss paper. The print quality looks good and binding seems durable.
The illustrations show the schoolgirls in casual poses. Many of them don't even show their faces. I find it interesting most are wearing jackets and those jackets look good. There are even two pages that talk about the designs of the school bags and jackets.
The illustration style is what I would describe as delicate with the thin lines and limited pastel colour scheme. The same colour scheme is used for all the artworks and it definitely gives a harmonious feel.
All the text is in Japanese. I was able to spot a few English words though, Procreate and Photoshop. So it seems like these illustrations are probably drawn in Procreate. Almost all are from 2018 and 2019.
There are a few pages of interviews and text on his creative process but those are in Japanese too. There are step by step pictures included so you can probably make out what he's trying to do just by looking at those.
This is a nice book worth getting if you're into this art style.
