Book Review: Together by Luke Adam Hawker

Tomorrow by Luke Adam Hawker - 01

Luke Adam Hawker is a London-based artist and instructor, and someone who loves to draw on location.

Covid and 2020 lockdowns forced almost everyone to stay home. This also led to Luke trying out a new introspective way of drawing. Together is book that takes a philosophical look at Covid and how it has affected the lives of everyone. In this book, Covid appears metaphorically as a once-in-a-lifetime storm.

What attracted me to this book is the art. Luke's line art is delicate and lively. I love the loose, energetic and squiggly lines. This is an interesting style and it works so well in storytelling. The book essentially is a picture book. The text is minimal and a reflection of our response to Covid, or the storm in this case. People are worried, there are shoppers loading their shopping carts, others are helping the less fortunate, everyone's hiding at home, and people coming out after the storm has passed.

The story is alright. The art is terrific. As a bonus, the paper quality is real good and the smells nice too.
