Book Review: We Think the World of You: People and Dogs Drawn Together by David Remfry
The title cannot be more apt. This book is about dogs and their owners drawn together.
The artist is David Remfry, an elected Royal Academician, who has lived at Hotel Chelsea in New York since 1995. He has long been fascinated with the relationship between dogs and their owners, and this book allows him to embark on a journey to understand it more.
Featured in this large 128-page hardcover are beautiful and casual sketches of dogs and their owners. There are a few prominent figures featured, such as Ethan Hawke (and Nina), Susan Sarandon (and Penny and Rigby), Alan Cumming (and Honey), and he also drew a few of his neighbours at Hotel Chelsea.
The sketches are mostly drawn with graphite, some are coloured with watercolour. Some have stories of how the owners and dogs found each other and those stories are great. But not all of them have stories though, and some of the stories are quite brief.
The drawings are nice. I know I should not say this but for some sketches, the dogs were drawn nicer than their owners. The idea for this book is great, and it's a good book, but it could have been a great book with more stories. The book could have had so much more depth if more stories were included.
