Emanata

Update: Emanata has updated to version 2. More comics and search features are added. Artist can also sell their comics through the app.

Emanata

Emanata is a free comic reader for the iPad that features independent comics.

It's a small download that means the comic titles you see on the homepage aren't actually stored on the iPad itself. You'll need an internet connection to load new pages.

There are many titles available already on the launch. I counted 28. As with indie comics, the difference in quality can vary wildly.

Functionality is limited but simple and sufficient. You swipe to turn pages, and tap to call up the menu or navigator.

Since the content is indie comics, I find it strange there's no obvious way for creators to sent their work to the library. The non-obvious way is to contact Emanata via the Feedback button on the app. That's also the way suggested on the Emanata blog. But use the email artist@emanata.co rather than feedback@emanata.co.

Emanata seems like an useful publishing platform for comic creators. I wish they provide more features in the future, such as the ability to sort titles by certain criteria, providing stats for readers and creators, etc.

You can download Emanata at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/emanata-comics/id557002805?ls=1&mt=8
