Review: Kwumsy PH1 66W GaN Charger and 6-in-1 Hub

Review unit provided by Kwumsy

The Kwumsy PH1 GaN 65W charger is also marketed as a hub but you should only treat it solely as a charger because the hub features are quite limited.

The price at the time of this review is US $129 on Kwumsy's website. Price is inclusive of global shipping.

Things included are the charger, a short USB-C to USB-C video cable, power cable and manual.

The ports here are USB-A 2.0, 100 Megabit Ethernet, HDMI 4K @30Hz, USB C with 60W PD and 10Gbps data transfer.

Exact power output for that USB-C is 5V/3A,9V/3A,12V/3A,15V/3A20V/3A 60W Max.

The ports on this side are just for charging:

  • USB-A with Quick Charge: 5V/3A,9V/2A,12V/1.5A 18W Max
  • USB-C with Quick Charge: 5V/3A,9V/3A,12V/3A,15V/3A,20V/3.25A 65W Max

It is possible to charge two devices at 60W and 65W together.

The only port that can transfer data is the USB-A port with USB 2 speeds. And that's very slow so it's not worth using for data transfer.

So just think of the Kwumsy PH1 solely as a GaN charger with some bonus features such as Ethernet and 4K 30Hz video output.

In the photo above, I actually wanted to connect an external storage to the PH1 and transfer files to my Surface Pro 8 and transfer speed is slow since the USB-A port has USB 2 speeds.

One thing I like about this charger is it's a tabletop charger so you can have access to the ports easily.

So to conclude, if you're looking for a charger for your laptop, phone or tablet, this can be a charger to consider, but only get this if you happen to need Ethernet or HDMI. Otherwise, you can find less expensive GaN chargers. If you want a charger and a hub/dock that can transfer data, look for USB-C or Thunderbolt docks with charging capability.

If you want a hub for data transfer with 60W charging, consider the Kwumsy H1 Hub instead, but that has limited USB-C ports.

If you're interested to get the Kwumsy PH1, you can get it from Kwumsy online store.
