Going to my first Fountain Pen Meet (Dec 2014)

Today, I went to my first Fountain Pen Meet which was organized by the Facebook group Singapore Fountain Pen Lovers. They have these gatherings every month where collectors would come together and talk about their fountain pens.

This month's meet up was at Burlington Square, just beside Sim Lim Square. Apparently there are a few resident and office sections inside and I went up the wrong block. I stopped at level 5 where the security of the residence there told me I was late and was probably the thirtieth person who got the address wrong. LOL. He then gave me the correct directions.

This greeted me when I opened the door to the function room. I should have came early or at least I should have brought my own chair. All the seats were taken. According to the Facebook page, over 70 people signed up for the event! It sure was crowded.

This was the door gift. Journals produced by LIFE co. ltd. I took the green one for drawing.

There were people from all ages, some with just a few pens and some with a few pen cases filled with pens.

The tables were littered with bottles of ink and fountain pens. Whenever I saw open ink bottles around, I was afraid that they might spill.

I began drawing all the fountain pens I borrowed.

There were two impressive pens that I tried out. One was the Visconti Homo Sapiens fountain pen which cost over USD $500. What's impressive is not the price but how smooth the nib was and the unique capping system. Unlike the screw-on or click-on cap, this one has a twist and latch on cap.

The other pen was the Sailor Professional Gear with a Naginata Cross Music Emperor nib. There's an additional piece of solid gold tap above the nib that provides additional ink reservoir for more ink flow. It writes almost like a Hero fountain pen with fude (bent) nib. When I checked the price on Nibs.com, it's staggering. Let's just say it's expensive.

This is the Pilot Vanishing Point. I've always wanted to see how it looks like and how it functions. I must say that it's a pretty weird looking pen. The clip is near the nib, and the push button is at the side away from the clip. Performance of the nib is pretty standard coming from Pilot.

There were so many pens I've not heard of.

I was told there huge turn out today was because of the attractive lucky draw prizes sponsored by Fook Hing, the fountain pen shop located at Bras Basah Complex.

Here's a Platinum 3776 with a marble green body. It's quite beautiful compared to the standard black and gold Platinum that I reviewed recently.

Here are other bloggers I meet who write about fountain pens. From left to right, there's me (aka Parka, Yiqi, 艺祺 — my introduction here for those I have not the chance to say hello), Nicholas from Inky Passion, Junee from Alt Haven and Maybelline from On Fountain Pens (and moderator of the Facebook group).

Thanks to Ian, Desmond, Anton, Ziwei and others for lending me their pens. There are so many names to remember!!

I sat that for what seems like an hour but was shocked that two hours passed.

It was fun.
