The Art of Herge, Inventor of Tintin: Volume 2: 1937-1949
Book description from Amazon:
The second in a three-volume series, this is a selection of Herge's outstanding, often unpublished, drawings showing the diversity of his work and offering the reader a view of the range of his talent. Georges Remi, better known as Herge, the creator of Tintin & Snowy, was born a century ago. He left an exceptional legacy, the center ofwhich was Tintin, but which also included much other work. This second volume of The Art of Herge covers the years 1937 to 1945.
The period illustrated in this volume is fascinating on a number of counts. It marks the maturity of Hergé, the creator and artist. In 1937 Hergé was only 30, but he had already laid down enough markers to lay claim to his future territory - the strip cartoon. It was during this period that he began to render the Adventures of Tintin in color.
The period covered in this volume was also marked by the national and international political tensions, and mounting dangers, that boiled over into the Second World War. From his childhood onwards, Herge produced a vast number of drawings, and these are all presented in chronological order, with many high quality reproductions, all accompanied by concise commentary, allowing us a closer look into the artist's daily routine, and by extension, his thoughts.
Continued from volume 1, Herge is now 30 years old, and as prolific as before. Just like volume 1, this book is also filled with well reproduced art and sketches.
The text is still on Herge's career interspersed with Tintin's adventures, making it harder to follow.
For the most part, I guess my review for the first volume is still applicable here so I won't repeat it. The incidents that happen are different of course. You get to read about what Herge did during World War 2 and how it affected his work.

Hello, the english edition
Hello,
the english edition looks quite different from the french one : only 3 volumes x 208 pages against 7 volumes x 420 pages for the french version!
Same author, same covers but very different size ... and price.
Have you been able to compare the 2 editions by any chance?
French version : https://www.amazon.fr/Herg%C3%A9-Chronologie-dune-oeuvre-4/dp/287424017…

I just did a peek-a-book of this series on my twitter- great book, this second one for me was superior to the first volume.
Im also curious about the larger French version! One difference I can immediately see is the French Vol 2 at a whoping 420 pages also only covers 1939-1942 where the American Vol 2 covers 1937-1949.
I can only imagine all the stuff they must of packed into the French version- perhaps it has the comics in there as well? I will have to poke around more and see about this- will report back.
Bests
