Book Review: コザキユースケ画集 KYMG:2 (Yusuke Kozaki Illustrations)
This is the second art book of Yusuke Kozaki (コザキユースケ). The first KYMG art book was published in 2008.
It's a 136-page paperback collecting his manga work, character designs and sketches from 2008 to 2012. Even in the first book, his art is already very refined. You get to see even more pieces of beautiful art here, all printed rather big.
He's still working on the manga series Kyoko Karasuma The Detective of Asakusa Police Department (烏丸響子の事件簿). The first few pages start with the manga covers and splash pages.
Next, there's the SF-A2 Miki Japanese Vocaloid, a character for a singing synthesizer application.
The next chapter called A Girl's Trigger has mixed illustrations. Some are from the game エースコンバットア (Ace Combat), J-pop band Supercell music album Today is a Beautiful Day, covers for books and magazines (pixiv), and some titles that I'm unable to decipher. In this chapter, there's a very wonderful illustration of the school girl with a huge M82A1 rifle printed on a gatefold.
There are a few pages of fabulous character art for the video game No More Heroes.
The rest of the book has more miscellaneous character designs. Yusuke Kozaki has amazing linework, colours and tones. There's attention to detail. All the characters are great and I really like their dynamic poses and reactions.
This artbook is a gorgeous addition to the first.
Highly recommended if you like Japanese character art, manga or anime style.
