Lost: Messages from the Island is a selection of the best stories from Lost: The Official Magazine (subscription link).
This book is really all about interviews with the various cast, producers, directors and production crew of Lost. It covers only the first two seasons so there's nothing on Ben and Juliet yet. It does however include the majority of the 16 powerhouse cast, like Jack, John, Sawyer, Kate, Hurley, Michael, Mr. Eko and many more.
If you're looking to find out about the secrets of the island, you probably won't learn anything new compared to watching the show. Instead, the interviews here have the actors talk about their experience of acting in Lost and their interactions with other actors.
There's plenty to read on their thoughts about the plot and chemistry between characters. You'll find out that they know as little of the plot prior to shooting, just as the audience prior to watching. The more interesting things to read about are how wonderful it is to shoot in Hawaii, where actors have moved in to stay during production. It's like a dream job excluding the insect bites in the jungle. With the production crew, they reveal how their shoot their scenes and create props like the Black Rock — from Styrofoam.
If you're not a subscriber of the magazine, this book is a very attractive alternative to catch up on the happenings behind the scenes. The photography and layout design are really beautiful.
Lost fans will find the value well worth the price, costing less than 2 issues of the magazine.
