Visiting Singapore Art Book Fair 2014
I didn't know that an event such as the Singapore Art Book Fair actually existed. And apparently, this is the second year running already.
I only found out about this event on Friday and could only visit it on Sunday. It ran from 13 Nov to 16 Nov 2014.
The Singapore Art Book Fair 2014 was once again held at Gillman Barracks, former military camp turned arts enclave in Singapore.
The exact venue was at Block 43, which is almost at the tail end of Gillman Barracks. There were quite a few food stalls outside selling finger food like hotdogs and soft drinks.
It was more crowded than I expected. It's a pretty young crowd, I guess probably 20-under 40s.
Near the front entrance, we have Wheniwasfour peddling their homemade nostalgic craft accessories that are nostalgic and harken to the past. They have things like pillows designed with the front cover of jotter books that school children would use (in the past?), the big white rabbit sweet wrapper made into a pin, and other interesting items, of which most have disappeared in modern day Singapore.
This booth is from the Singapore Memory Project. I'm quite surprised to see the guy promoting the comic story from Monsters, Miracles & Mayonnaise which was drawn by my friend Drewscape.
The cover of Afterglobe instantly caught my attention because the erasers with country flags. Kids growing up in the 80s and 90s will probably remember playing with them.
Afterglobe is a local travel magazine that's published twice a year. It features more personal stories as compared to typical top-ten or best-of lists that you usually see in other travel magazines or websites.
These are self published zines.
The wall of doodles.
These are brush painted letters by The Letter J Supply. Check out their website for more creative lettering.
This is the booth of publisher Gestalten. They published really high quality art and picture books, some of which I've featured before. I spoke to the guy there who told me that they are not actually from Gestalten but are selling the books on behalf of BooksActually.
And that's the BooksActually booth.
I also say one of my sponsors APD Singapore. I just went to their facebook page and back and found out that they had posted about this event. But somehow it did not show up on my facebook feed even though I'm subscribed to them. Argh.
This is Lowave, a publishing house from Paris that are into experimental cinema and video art. Inside those packages you see are selected films in DVD.
This shophouse is one of the cooler things I see at the fair. It's actually a paper model that you can build yourself. You can just get the book, cut out the designs inside and then glue all the pieces together. The recreation is fantastic and includes even furniture inside the house! You can find the books at www.paperbricksdesign.com and Etsy.
Bookends designed by Jessica Wong from Scene Shang.
These are from Push-Press, a Risograph printing press based in Singapore.
Local publisher Epigram Books is also there.
That's about all the photos I took. To view all the photos visit https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+TeohYiChie/albums/60822618927358584…
